Day 1: Phnom Penh arrival Upon arrival and after clearing immigration and customs, our local guide will meet you at the airport and drive you to the hotel for check in. Time permitting, we will visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the notorious ‘Killing Fields’ of Choeung Ek—two sites not to be missed. A visit to these places provides profound insight into the painful, bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge. In the afternoon, enjoy a cyclo ride around town and visit the Royal Palace. In the northern section of the palace grounds lies the Silver Pagoda— the most sacred temple in the country. Next head to the National Museum: a great introduction to early Khmer architecture and culture. Meals: Breakfast. Accommodation: Hotel in Siem Reap Day 2: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap Angkor Thom – Bayon – Terrace of Elephant (Biking day) Awake early and drive to the airport to catch your flight to Siem Reap. Our guide will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel for breakfast and check in. Enjoy a full day exploring the wondrous and ancient Khmer ruins by bicycle. Starting with the South Gate of Angkor Thom—famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone—explore the rest of the ancient capital city, including the impressive Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Accommodation: Hotel in Siem Reap Day 3: Ta Prom – Angkor Wat (Biking day) This morning, do a biking tour to Ta Prom temple then on to visit the famous and majestic Angkor Wat. This architectural masterpiece was constructed in the 12th century and covers an area of about 210 hectares. Stroll around this massive edifice, seeing the many galleries with columns, libraries, pavilions, courtyards and ponds full of water reflecting the towering temple. Return to the hotel and enjoy lunch on your own at one of the many restaurants in Siem Reap. In the afternoon drive to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang. Our guide will meet you outside the arrival gate and escort you to your hotel. Meals: Breakfast Accommodation: Hotel in Luang Prabang Day 4: Luang Prabang – Ban Chok Your bike tour starts from your hotel. Ride to the boat dock to cross the Mekong then bike through Xieng Maen and Ban Chan to explore the pottery making before continuing on through the countryside to visit some rural villages. Lunch will be served by your guide picnic style. In the afternoon continue by bike to the village to your overnight accomodations (home stay + Basi) Approximately: 5-6 hours biking Meals: Breakfast Accommodation: Home stay or Camping Day 5: Ban Chok – Muang Kham After a Lao style breakfast, spend an hour on the bike, going on to Ban Som & Ban Na to explore the Cave and Mango tree (over 500 years old). Thenbike along the route to Na Kham to experience how to make the Sticky rice cook in young Bamboo with sugar and coconut milk and lunch, then bike along the Mekong River to Muang Kham and explore how to make Mekong weed then take boat 20 minutes down Mekong for sunset to Luang Prabang Approximately: 5-6 hours biking Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Accommodation: Hotel in Luang Prabang Day 6: Luang Prabang – Long Lao – Trekking – Kuang Sii Fall After an hour drive into the hills west of Luang Prabang, begin your trek with a visit to the Khmu village of Ban Longlao Nung. Close by lies the Hmong village Ban Longlao Song. You can observe the life styles of these two culturally very different minority groups. Despite their differences, the villagers work together and share the same school. Leaving this rural setting, the trail leads along rice fields and vegetable gardens before reaching the steep wooded mountains. Along the way we stop to explore a cave, which served as a bomb shelter for the villagers living in this valley during the Second Indochina War. One more hour of trekking takes you to the crystal clear water of just one of the springs that feed the Kuang Xi waterfall: a beautiful pool full of big sacred fish. After descending from the top of the waterfall, a Lao-style lunch is served in a lush setting. The afternoon is spent bathing and relaxing in the turquoise pools below then visiting the young bears living in a sanctuary close to the entrance gate. In the afternoon we drive back to Luang Prabang. Approximately: Trekking 4 hours / drive 2 hours.
